From the Chinese Garden, cross over the majestic Bridge of Double Beauty to the adjacent Japanese Garden 'Seiwaen'. In contrast to the visual grandeur of Chinese Garden, the Japanese Garden is more minimalist and abstract, with emphasis on simplicity. It is based on the gardening techniques which prevailed from the Muromachi period (1392 – 1568) to the Momoyama period (1568 – 1615) in Japan. Local plants have been used in the landscape to depict and create the same effect as traditional gardens in Japan. Genuine stone lanterns and rocks from Japan further enhance the general landscape of this garden. Features such as arched bridges over lily-filled ponds and traditional summer houses all add to the serene and tranquil surroundings of the garden.
