A benefit for companies establishing operations on Jurong Island is the well-established infrastructures, which can save companies 25-30% in capital outlay and 10-15% in logistics costs. Companies are vertically integrated and served by the common-shared facilities to create synergy and efficiency. As a result of clever cluster manufacturing arrangement, the output of one plant becomes the input of another plant. This allows for efficient plant to plant transport of feedstock and products via a network of pipelines.
Apart from the plant-to-plant synergy, companies on the Island also benefit from economies of scale, and enjoy increased operational efficiency and cost savings. These benefits are possible due to the minimal requirement for storage facilities and long-haul distribution afforded by the Island’s intelligently-designed infrastructures.
Gazetted as a Protected Area in 2001, Jurong Island is safeguarded by a comprehensive and integrated security framework. All vehicles and personnel entering the island are screened at a dedicated security checkpoint. The latest security technologies and trained security personnel are deployed at the checkpoint to allow for effective screening and swift clearance.
The island has 2 state-of-the-art fire stations, armed with
hazardous materials fire-fighting equipment and operated by the Singapore Civil
Defence Force.
Amidst functional development, a landscape masterplan was created for Jurong Island. Soft lightings and graceful trees were intentionally grown alongside shining chrome and steel structures to soften the harsh landscape commonly associated with chemicals hubs. Sakra Park, located at the centre of Jurong Island, is a particularly inviting slice of nature comprising a timber boardwalk, a cactus garden and waterfront features.
