Land Planning & Redevelopment

See Shan Yi, Manager, Geospatial Unit

I applied for the JTC scholarship as I had an interest in urban planning and the built environment sector.

JTC’s role in supporting the economy and growth of new industries appealed to me. Given Singapore’s limited land resources, we must explore new ways to use them innovatively so that we can cater to the ever-evolving demands of industrialists.

I’ll always look back at my days studying overseas fondly.

I enrolled at the prestigious Bartlett School of Planning for my undergraduate studies and Centre of Advanced Spatial Analytics for my master’s degree. I got to work with some of the most renowned academics and aspiring urban planners from around the world.

Work in JTC is multi-faceted as I’m both a geospatial analyst and estate officer.

For the former, I develop geospatial solutions for my end-users. As an estate officer, I ensure that relevant planning approvals are obtained for development projects and that there is adequate land supply to meet industrial land needs. My work in JTC is both challenging and dynamic as we manage the lifecycle of land. One thing’s certain — we always work together as a team to resolve complex problems that arise at the various stages of the industrial land lifecycle.

Supporting JTC’s environmental sustainability efforts drives me!

From managing inventory dataset for JTC’s SolarRoof initiative to mapping utilities data to enable the tracking of carbon emissions, these are some of the meaningful projects I was involved in. Going green is on everyone’s lips now, and I look forward to participating in the sustainability conversation.
