Wafer Fabrication and Advanced Display Park

Singapore’s semiconductor industry began in the 1960s, with the introduction of early assembly and testing activities. In a span of over 40 years, Singapore has grown its semiconductor sector into its current established state. In 2005, the semiconductor cluster employed more than 30,000 people and produced S$27.5 billion in terms of output and S$7.3 billion in terms of total value-added.

Singapore has always been a favourite base for high-volume, mass market manufacturing activities. Semiconductors are small, high-tech and fast-moving products and wafer fabrication as well as assembly and testing companies have found that they can produce efficiently in Singapore, for export to the rest of the world.

From research and development, manufacturing, integrated circuit (IC) design, supply-chain management, logistics and distribution, to HQ activities, Singapore offers a total solutions environment of shared services for players in the semiconductor industry. Today, Singapore's highly interconnected semiconductor domain consists of the following:

  • 14 wafer fabrication facilities, with two of them offering 12-inch technology, which is the most sophisticated in the world today
  • 19 assembly and test operations, which include the world’s top three subcontract assembly and test companies
  • About 40 IC design centres and over 800 IC engineers, of which about two-thirds are analogue and mixed signal designers.

Our vision is to develop our four existing wafer fabrication parks and one advanced display park into the most preferred locations for wafer fabrication and advanced display facilities. The parks are located in Woodlands, North Coast, Tampines and Pasir Ris and offer 261 hectares of prepared land.

Tampines Wafer Fab Park

This park is situtated in the eastern region of Singapore, near the Tampines Regional Centre. The Tampines Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station and Tampines Expressway provide excellent links to the city and airport. Semiconductor companies like Hitachi Semiconductor Singapore, Siltronic Singapore and Siltronic Samsung Wafer have already taken up 24.1 ha of the 60.2 ha of land available in the park.

Pasir Ris Wafer Fab Park

This park is situated in the eastern region of Singapore, close to the Tampines Regional Centre and the Tampines Wafer Fab Park. It is located in close proximity to the Pasir Ris MRT and Tampines Expressway.  About 20.2 ha of the 59.1 ha site has already been allocated.

Industry lumineries who have staked their chips here include UMCi Ltd, Systems on Silicon Manufacturing (SSMC), and Soitec.

Woodlands Wafer Fab Park

This park is situtated in the northern region of Singapore, close to the Woodlands Regional Centre. The Marsiling MRT station and Bukit Timah Expressway provide excellent links to the city and airport.

About 28.3 ha of the 48.5 ha site has been allocated and this is home to Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, our homegrown semiconductor company, with its Fab 2, Fab 3, Fab 5, Fab 6 and Fab 7. The other occupants include TECH Semiconductor Singapore, a wafer fab company and First DCS, which provides chilled water to the wafer fab companies in the park.

North Coast Wafer Fab Park
This park is also located in the northern region of Singapore. It is close to Woodlands Regional Centre and in close proximity to Bukit Timah Expressway and Admiralty MRT Station. About 0.6 ha of the 23 ha site has been allocated to Avago.

Advanced Display Park

Dedicated to supporting the advanced display industry, the park offers a total site area of 35 ha. It is home to AFPD, a joint venture between Toshiba and Matsushita and is Singapore's first TFT-LCD plant. The park is located in the vicinity of the Tampines Regional Centre, Tampines MRT station and Tampines Expressway.
