Facilities & Estates Management

Shane Martin, Manager, Facilities & Estates Management (Public) Division

I expected a lot of “red tapes” and procedural quirks.

Instead, I found JTC to be a progressive organisation with a conductive environment to contribute and learn, and where colleagues know how to work hard and play hard. The work and the people you collaborate with challenge you to make meaningful and well-thought-out decisions.

A typical workday is usually packed with lots of action.

We partner our facility management companies (FMCs) to ensure that our maintenance activities are progressing as planned. We also study innovative technologies we can adopt to improve productivity in FM operations. My teammates and I often brainstorm ideas too. Some examples of solutions we’ve implemented include food waste digesters and e-waste recycling bins both reflect JTC’s commitment to our sustainability goals. We also find ways to work smarter – drones are used to carry out periodic façade inspections at our properties. This not only enables us to quicken our inspection processes, but also allows us to gather more insights from data captured in addition to carrying out works safely.

An unforgettable project that I’ve worked on? The trial of an Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) disinfecting robot at The JTC Summit.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were looking for innovative and productive ways to carry out regular and thorough cleaning safely. I met up with vendors, studied the test reports to assess the effectiveness of UV-C, and eventually piloted a trial at our headquarters.

JTC supports your training and development.

I’ve attended courses where I gained newfound knowledge that allowed me to contribute meaningfully back to the organisation.

Working in a big organisation might seem daunting, but not at JTC!

I’ve got supportive colleagues and bosses. When it comes to acclimatising to the culture in JTC, it’s never an issue as you are generally never far away from help!
